Photo Cerro Negro, Nicaragua: Sampling of altered rocks in the main crater of the Cerro Negro volcano.,
Sampling of altered rocks in the main crater of the Cerro Negro volcano. Yellow-colored rocks, broken down by fumaroles into a mixture of sulphates, contrast sharply with black basalt lava. Cerro Negro is a polygenetic volcano that is the youngest and also the smallest volcano in Nicaragua. It was founded in April 1850 in a field near the settlement Malpaisillo. During its existence, 23 eruptions were recorded, the last eruption started at the end of May 1999 and lasted almost two years. | Žáček, Vladimír | 2004
